Register for each event. You will receive a specific Zoom link to join the event on the day of.

 

Start your summer break with some comic books and art! Join the library in a 6-day virtual Zoom chat with comic book artist, Gene Ha, creator of the Mae comic book series. Learn the basic steps that artists use to develop their own comic books and design your own comic strip this summer! For more information, check out Gene Ha’s website at: www.geneha.com.

 

Grades 1-8

Wednesdays, 2-3pm


Day 1: June 17

Supplies needed:
Paper
Pencils & any other drawing tools
A small object that looks kind of like it has a face but doesn't.

-Faces! Learn to draw faces from any angle starting from the simplest to a more realistic form.

 

Day 2: June 24  

Supplies needed: 

Big sheets of cheap paper, like a cut open brown paper grocery sack or a big cheap drawing pad
Big drawing tools: crayons, paint brushes & tempera, fat markers, charcoal drawing sticks, etc

-Smudgy drawings! Break away from precise lines and loosen up like an Impressionist.

 

Day 3: July 1  

Supplies needed: 

Small paperboard box (ex. baking soda box, cereal box, etc.) or building blocks,

Paper
Pencils & any other drawing tools

-Cityscapes! Learn the basic rules of perspective by lining up paperboard boxes or building blocks and drawing from life.

 

Day 4: July 8

Supplies needed:

Paper
Pencils & any other drawing tools
Phone camera or any other digital camera

-Learn to draw from the real world. Use another person (kid or grown-up) to be your model! If anyone else is in the house you have a figure model. If you have a digital camera you can shoot reference of anything from your real life.


Day 5: July 15

Supplies needed: 

Paper
Pencils & any other drawing tools

-Learn to draw your favorite animal! Practice reinforcing your skills on human figure drawing.

 

Day 6: July 22

Supplies needed: 

Paper
Pencils, black pen or marker, & any other drawing tools

-Draw like a comic book artist! Put all of your skills together to create your very own panel comic!
